TOWN COLLECTOR

The Town Collector is charged by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to enforce the state revenue and taxation code which includes the collection of various taxes. The town collector primarily collects property taxes that fund the activities of local government. The town collector does not determine how much to collect. The board of assessors determines the value of a parcel and applies the tax rates to the tax bill. The assessors then charge the town collector with the collection of the tax bill.
