Then and Now
Memorial Day Parade in the 1960's. The brick house in the background is shown
in its original location on the corner of East Main and Maple Streets.

ca. 1962 The location of this house was at the intersection of East Main and Maple Street, adjacent to the Baptist Church. In the early 1970’s the home was donated to the church through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Elder for the purpose of expanding the church and parking area. In many cases structures would be torn down to make room for an expansion but not in this case. The house was partially disassembled including the rear addition and brick walls and the main section was moved to 14 Town Farm Road in North Brookfield.

June 2009 Today the home is barely recognizable. It is owned by James and Ann Wilkinson. The brick walls were replaced with painted wood siding. The building was re-orientated and a number of additions nearly hide the original structure.

“Going Green” and recycling was evident in East Brookfield more than 35 years ago.
