Then
and Now
The Connie Mack Home Towners Baseball Team
taken in the 1950's in front of the Connie Mack house

ca. 1962 The house in the picture is located at
108 North Brookfield Rd. It is currently owned by Sue and Larry
Gordon. This house was built on the site of a small cape once owned
by Connie Mack (Cornelius McGillicuddy) and his family.
The McGillicuddy
family rented a house at the intersection of Main and Maple where
Connie and other siblings were born. At age four Connie and his
family moved to the small cottage on North Brookfield Road, which
they rented for $6.00 per month. On October 13, 1875 the family
purchased this home for $625.00. The taxes that first year were
$11.75. In 1893 the deed to the home was transferred to Connie assuming
all taxes and expenses. Connie and his brother Michael Jr. had previously
paid off the mortgage when their father became too ill to work and
eventually died. In 1902 Connie transferred the deed to his brother
Tom. Tom owned the home until his death. The home was sold to Emerson
Stoddard. The cottage burned some time in the 1920s. The house you
see today was built on the original foundation and decking.
It appears Connie
Mack Day took place in 1962 in celebration of the 100th birthday
our most famous citizen with acknowledgement of the towns youth
baseball teams.
Can anyone provide
additional information of this photo including any of the adults
and children? If you can please let us know.
Do you know
that Connie Mack will be 150 years old in 2012? Does anyone have
additional photographs of the last Connie Mack Day that they are
willing to share?
